Sunset over the Mountains

Did I ever tell you I love doing landscapes , it is just so much fun sorting through fabric and choosing that piece you "think "will work well for an area of the picture you are about to create .Sometimes you think you have it but when you get it on there you realize it just doesn't work so you start over again , still I love the process and this fall I will be taking a workshop at a retreat that will be a fractured landscape , I know nothing about making this type of landscape but I am really looking forward to giving it a try , we are required to have an 8x10 picture for this class and so far I am not sure I have that photo ready ,more picture taking to do ;-)
I must tell you the colors are a little off on this picture , it is a little lighter here than it truly is , I should take the time to learn more about my camera .
Thanks for stopping by.

Mystery quilt

On this rainy afternoon I am finishing off a couple of small things for our quilt show on Saturday and I am pleased to say this mystery quilt is now complete .I started this two years ago in July , oh my that is a long time isn't it , oh well it is now off my UFO list and I can add it to my finishes for May ,yippeeeeee! I purchased all the fabrics in this quilt on a visit to Seattle to visit my Material Girl friends and too bad I didn't take a picture of the back as the material also matches the front although a different print . I am not sure if this actually has a name , terrible huh but I have labeled it Mystery quilt and to be honest it is a mystery to me why I do Mystery quilts , I don't particulary like the idea of not knowing what the final project will look like , I had to learn that the hard way though , this is my third mystery quilt , I am a slow learner and get this I signed up for another one starting in Sept. with our quilt guild , yeah a real slow learner .
I will be taking a few pictures at our show on Sat .and hope to post a few if I can get some decent pictures so keep your eyes open for some great quilts .For now have a great day and Happy sewing .

One Flower Wednesday

My two little flowers are taking a break in my Christmas cactus today , I only managed two this week , those buds just don't want to bloom , more fertilizer needed ;-) Maybe next week I will accomplish more as the quilt show will be over and I will have more time to do those little things I so love to do :-) Until next Wed. keep those gardens growing .

BOM Quilt

Last year our quilt guild did a BOM quilt with a flower garden theme and this is my quilt .The good news is that it is finally being quilted by myself and my friends at the church on Tuesdays .Each month we received two new patterns for our garden blocks to be completed before the next meeting ,our program director was Anne of Humbug Quilter and she is a wonderful teacher and has such great ideas so it was a real fun year and there were some very colorful quilts completed as a result . As you can see there are no fancy quilt frames used here just plain old boards with clamps on the ends and chairs to hold the whole thing up ,it might not be modern but it works ;-) Since I had lots of scraps leftover I chose to make a piano key border with them and I rather like that effect ,although you can't see it in this picture the corners have fans of these scrap fabrics .
I am still........ sewing down the binding on my mystery quilt , it was real hot here yesterday and I decided to do some cleaning and washing of windows ,why I waited for a hot day is beyond me ; so I didn't get anywhere near the sewing room and last evening I tried to do some more on the binding but oh my it was too hot to have a large quilt draped over you so perhaps this evening I can finish that off as it is presently raining .
Thanks for stopping by.

Finished

Here you have it my little landscape all completed , I just have this pinned on my design wall so it may look a little crooked and you may see a few stray threads but I was tired when I took this and perhaps I should have taken another but there you go .
I love doing these landscapes although each one is a bit of a learning curve for me , choosing fabrics is a little tough at times and if I was to start this one over I would choose slightly different fabrics but you just never know when you are starting what it will actually look like when you get it all sewn together .
The sun is shining and it is quite hot 25C here today ,so nice after the cool weather we have been experiencing lately .Hope the sun is shining in your world.

A sneak peak

Lat night I decided I wanted a little break from quilting and also the flower garden but not from hand work so I started this little project that I am giving you just a small sample of as it isn't finished and it wouldn't look that appealing just now , can you guess what it might be?I'm off now to a lobster supper , are you drooling yet? I love lobster but rarely get to eat it even if I do live in an area where lobster fishing is quite prevalent .I'm going to this supper with my friends that I quilt with on Tuesdays so it should be a fun evening out and there will be no dishes to wash ;-) Have a great evening and weekend and thanks for stopping by .

The Interior

I know I already told you about this wonderful handbag I won from Cyndi at Bluebirdswing but I had promised to show you the inside so you can see the great pockets she added and the sweet fabric she used for the interior .  I have showed a few of my friends and they sure loved it and I know I am going to really enjoy using it all summer long ;-)
Have a wonderful day .

One Flower Wednesday

Here you can see the total number of flowers in my garden so far , I added three this week I believe ,I've sort of lost track as I just put them all in a basket and didn't really take note of how many were already in there .So it is going to take a while to have enough to really do much with but there is no race so I will just keep plugging away . How many in your garden this week??

A Special Person

You know sometimes you simply can't find the words to express how special and thoughtful some people are .Cyndi from Bluebird Swings is one of those people. A short while ago I won third prize in her draw for April , I was so happy and I was quite sure I would be pleased with my win but I don't think I "really "knew how happy I would be until that parcel arrived today in the mail . In the pictures here you will see what Cyndi has so generously sent to me , the handbag is simply gorgeous ,I should have taken pictures of the inside of the bag as well to show you all the neat pockets she has sewn in ,I will do that tomorrow so you can see the wonderful fabric she chose for the interior as well . The little journal will be great to write about my quilting and the notepad with my initial I will take to quilt guild with me so I have something to take notes in .Cyndi I can never thank you enough for your incredible gift , just beautiful I sure am a lucky gal today !!
If you have never been to Cyndi's blog I really urge you to go on over and have a look at all her incredible work !

"Happy Mothers Day"

I am off to visit my dear Mother for Mothers Day and I know it will be a special day for both of us , I don't get to see my parents real often so I cherish the times I do . May all the mothers , grandmothers and aunts  have a very very special Mothers Day , we are all mothers in some way even if we don't have children of our own , we still give that nurturing to others and that is what mothers are all about caring for those we love .God Bless and may your day be filled with wonderful memories .
hugs,
Sheila

"One Flower Wednesday "

I almost forgot to post my hexagon finishes for this Wednesday . Here you have it , three completed flowers with several more cut , pressed and ready to assemble .Lets see that gives me a grand total of six , I suppose that isn't too bad but you know the best part is I am using up scraps of fabrics that otherwise might not get used so that has got to be a good thing ;-)

A few finishes

I am off to an early start for May , I just had to make this sweet little fabric envelope for my Mom , when ever I seen it on http://gumtreedesigners.blogspot.com I knew it was something I wanted to make , it is so cute . Since my Mom has recently taken up handquilting I have also made her a needlecase and to make your own just go here . It is a great size and I will fill it up with a few goodies for her and hopefully she will love using it . I love it so much I will make one for myself to take quilting on Tuesdays ;-)
Finally I made these two pillowcases this morning for our quilt guild , we are having a pillowcase challenge and all the pillowcases received will go to charities .They are quick and so much fun to make and children and adults alike love them .

You may all be wondering how the quilt is coming along , welllllllll , that is a long story , the embroidery just didn't work for me , it was very difficult to keep the fabric feeding evenly with the quilt to deal with so I ended up frog stitching that and have since did some maple leaves in that area and I am down to the outside border which I have sort of decided to hand quilt the maple leaves in a smaller version .I am still aiming for a finish by the end of this month so it can be included in the quilt show .Heres hoping :-) Thanks for stopping by .
